It is a tale about Alrezky Caesaria, a Pixel Artist who recently held an exhibition at Ruang Gerilya, as her Master Degree Final Examination.

I’ve been a fans of this lady from her art medium was painting (you can see the full portfolio here), and this moment has been special for me, to witness her transition as an artist from Paint Medium into, I quoted, New Media Art. Infused by a Culture of Screen Phenomenon, with Pixel Art as her core, she then explored two technologies : Arduino and 3D printing. And seen the results, it given an interesting experience, I tell you this, her art has so much exponential development in the future.

Ruang Gerilya is an alternative art space slash platform based in Bandung, located at Jalan Raden Patah no. 12. Been a first time here, and founded by one of my friend, named Wibi Triadi, Zico Albaiquni, and Aliansyah Caniago, and others who same as a backbone to this space, fueled by care and contribution to Bandung’s art movement.

The purpose of Ruang Gerilya is to become a starting point for the artists to build their career, before they are stepping up into bigger art space.

Combined with firm theory about Pixel Art, Culture of Screen Phenomenon, and New Media Art, she wants to bring this form into different type of screen, “It can be applied in Running Text, Megatron, etc., as long as the screen compatible with pixel.”, and when I asked how to commercialize this kind of art, she got an interesting answer, “Collector, Gallery, and Museum would be the primary target market, and the experience that could be given by it has so much potential to be designed, be it in form of installation or something that might be more complex than that, it depends on how the potential buyer perceive the art.”

I attempted to feel and seek the message implied from the art, can not find any. Curious, I asked the question, “What message did you try to tell people from it?”

She answered, “Nothing, this version was a pure play :)”

I am happy.
